D. Barrie Risk Management Ltd provides a survey service throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The majority of surveys are carried out by the principal - David Barrie, although there is some reliance on tried and trusted associates to cover some areas, and to provide both specialist reports on sprinklers and health and safety.
Surveys Provided
• Material Damage (fire, perils, all risks)
• Business Interruption
• Theft/Money
• Sprinkler
• Health and Safety
Experience
The principal has had long experience in the insurance industry as both underwriter and surveyor previously working for companies that insured a wide range of different risks, including those commonly regarded as ‘distressed’ or difficult to cover. He has particular experience dealing with high risk theft risks. Whilst D.Barrie Risk Management has been operating risks seen have ranged from paint factories to prisons and gay bars. The normal and straightforward are also catered for!
Past Customers
The company has worked for Heath Lambert and Heath Lambert Risk Management, Lloyd’s syndicates and brokers and a number of major insurers. Some risk control reports have also been produced for large corporations.
Service Standards
• |
Urgent surveys can usually be arranged and reports submitted within seven to ten working days. |
• |
Otherwise surveys are generally arranged, completed and reports submitted within thirty to forty five days – with the exception of particularly remote risks. It is important, however, that some priorities are set with each request; rather than each one being marked ‘Urgent.’ |
Charges
Charges are based on the time taken to complete. Traveling is charged at £30 per hour, with survey time and writing up at £50 an hour. Where a number of surveys can be carried out in the same geographical area this results in lower charges overall.
There are no additional charges other than VAT. Reasonable costs of dealing with subsequent enquiries are included – such as inspecting and approving intruder alarm specifications and the like.
Report Format
• |
The emphasis is on easily understood reports, which provide all relevant information, together with good quality photographs. As standard this includes a check of the flood risk against Environment Agency floodplain maps and gives an indication of crime levels in any given area. Where combustible buildings linings are known to be present or suspected this is made clear.
A copy of the standard format is available on request. |
• |
Whilst the Company's own format is preferred this can be amended or substituted with any format required. |
Risk Improvements
Every effort is made to agree risk improvements on site. Basic assistance and advice is given. A separate sheet is provided with each report, which can be sent out attached to a covering letter. This cuts down on subsequent queries and correspondence.
Other Services
• |
Video footage can be taken if required. |
• |
Credit checks can be carried out. |
• |
Where required a covering sheet can be produced highlighting (for benefit of brokers) issues raised during survey (to enable intermediaries to comply with FSA requirements). |
Support
The intention is to provide more by:
• |
Providing assistance to underwriters both on survey specific matters and general underwriting concerns (training courses have been arranged for some customers) |
• |
Ensuring that the potential for dispute between insured and insurers is kept to an absolute minimum |
• |
Ensuring that where warranties and conditions are breached the insurer and broker are informed. |
• |
Improving risks generally where possible, by agreeing cost effective measures. |
Overall we would hope this adds up to the same level of support and assistance that would be given by an ‘in house’ surveyor.
The Company has Professional Indemnity Insurance and is VAT registered. |
